NGH BIBLE STUDY – ROMANS – OUTLINE #28
Outline #28: The Posture towards Governing Authorities – Romans 13:1-7
This passage continues Paul’s practical instruction concerning the believer’s service, showing how the believer’s surrendered life should be expressed in relation to governing authorities. Having addressed relationships within the local church (Rom 12:3–21), Paul now applies Christian service to the wider sphere of society, demonstrating that devotion to God shapes the believer’s conduct toward human authority. Christians are to recognize that the source of all legitimate authority is God, Himself. Paul also explains the practical reason for governing authorities: to restrain evil, to promote good, and to maintain order in society. Consequently, believers are to submit to God-given authorities, not just outwardly but with due respect and honour.
