Romans 8:1-17

NGH BIBLE STUDY – ROMANS – OUTLINE #16

Outline #16: The Presence of the Spirit – 8:1-17

The opening verses of Romans 8 form one of the great hinge passages of the epistle. After chapter 7 has exposed the believer’s inability to produce holiness through the efforts of the flesh, chapter 8 introduces the ministry of the Holy Spirit as God’s gracious provision and the divine answer to that struggle. The emphasis in these verses is not primarily on spiritual gifts or extraordinary experiences, but on the Spirit’s indwelling presence and His ongoing work in every believer. Through His ministry, the Spirit applies the benefits of Christ’s finished work, securing our acceptance before God, empowering our sanctification, and assuring us of our relationship as beloved children of our heavenly Father.
