Heb 12:2 – Is joy set before us?
We are not merely “resting” from sin (pauō, “to take one’s rest … to refrain from”, W. E. Vine), but we are to positively and actively “live … to the will of God”.
1 Peter 4:3 Enough with the bad behaviour!
Peter turns from what was to what is
1 Peter 4:4 You became a stranger with strange behaviour to all who did not change through the gospel.
They (1 Cor 4:12,13) the apostles, they (1 Pet 4:14 KJV) the Lord, they (2 Pet 2:2) the way of truth,
they (Rom 2:24) the name of God
They will (1 Pet 4:4) Peter’s current audience and us!
1 Peter 4:5 The unsaved will answer for their treatment of the saved,
they will give account to (John 5:22), (Rev 20:12)(cf. Matt 12:36; Luke 16:2; Acts 19:40; Heb 13:17; Rom 2:6;
2 Tim 4:8, 14; Rev 22:12)
(1 Cor 3:13–15; 2 Cor 5:10) The believer, will give account of his stewardship at the judgment seat,
where his words and works will be assessed. His sin was dealt with at the cross.
1 Peter 4:6 starts with a purpose, a reason, a why, an end in view that points back at V5.
Because of V5 the gospel was needed, provided, and preached in time past.
Those that accepted may have been judged by the ejectors of the gospel by human standards.
But their new life of freedom in spirit allows them to live spiritually by God’s standards.
Their hope is secure, they will never receive the penal consequences of their sin at
the great white throne of (Rev 20:11).
1 Peter 4:7 (James 4:14) How near is it? Since you do not know, this is no time for procrastination!
“2 Pet 3:9,8” Sober (The demoniac of Gadara in Mark 5:15), The thought of “self-controlled”, watch “be sober-minded”
“It is the evident aim of the Holy Spirit to keep us on the tiptoe of expectation. We are always to be as men whose Lord may come at any minute of the day or night: “The end of all things draws near.” Do not get intoxicated with anything—neither with pride, nor with covetousness, nor with the cares of this world. Maintain your equilibrium; stand steadfast and firm: “Be sober-minded.” (Spurgeon, C.)
How else can we pray meaningfully other than to thinking clearly! Pray with prioritized prayer!
1 Peter 4:8 Priority! Above all! LOVE, fervent (without ceasing, constant!)
(Acts 12:5). Cause forgiveness and not grudging.
1 Peter 4:9 Hospitality to “one to another”
1 Peter 4:10 Serve… , (1 Peter 5:5) ~ Yea, all of you be subject one to another,
and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
You have been given the gift of grace, pass it on!
1 Peter 4:11 Get to know the word of God, let it permeate you thoughts so when you speak it is His words,
so when you serve the people of God it is service guided by His word.
