Marks 0f the Spiritual Person

Galatians 6:1
You Who Are Spiritual
Rom 8:6 KJV
Col 1:9

  1. HOLY Before HAPPY – Holiness is commanded!
    Lev 11:44, 45; 19:2; 20:7, 26
    1 Pet 1:15-16

HolyA state of purity involving separation from sin and therefore consecration to God, holiness is akin to Sanctification

    TWO HAPPYS?
Luke 23:8A temporary feeling of gladness or rejoicing?

    Or a lasting blessing!

    Ac 26:2 KJV – Witnessing
    Jn 13:17 KJV – Obedience
Ro 14:22 KJV – Clear conscience
1 Pe 3:14 KJV – Suffering for Righteousness
1 Pe 4:14 KJV – Reproached for His Name
Jas 5:11 KJV – Endure – Prophets, Job, The Lord
The end result: Victory, We Overcome
    Rev 5:5 – Lion Prevails
Rev 6:2 – Rider of White Horse Conquers
There is a promise of blessing to the Overcomer in all seven letters to the churches of Rev 2&3

Our first point describes the pursuit of a fleeting feeling of gladness,
or the pursuit of a purity that brings an eternal blessing

An assembly of Christians may be like a cruise ship, where people focus on having a good time?
or an aircraft carrier, where they come for fuel, and leave on missions to be ambassadors for God?

John Wesley said he doubted that a certain church had been made perfect in love because
they came to church to enjoy religion instead of to learn how they could become holy.

  2. God’s Honour & Glory Before Any Other
    Luke 17:18 KJV
    Rom 4:20
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease – John the forerunner
(Such an one prays “Hallowed be Thy name,” and silently adds, “at any cost to me, Lord.”)
He lives for God’s honour by a kind of spiritual reflex. Every choice involving the glory of God is for him already made.

  3. The Cross Before Carnal Ease
    Ecc 9:11
The cross is that extra adversity that comes to us as a result of our obedience to Christ
    Hebrews 10:32-33,34
    Acts 5:40-41
2 Timothy 3:12 – godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Galatians 6:12 – circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

  4. A Right Death Before a Wrong Life
    1 Cor 9:15 – I would rather die
Php 1:20-21  – It were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

  5. Others Advancement Before theirs
    Php 2:4,17
    2 Cor 12:15
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease – John the forerunner

  6. God’s viewpoint Before Any Other
2Ki 6:17 – Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.”
    Luke 12:16-18,19-20

  7. Eternity-judgments Before time-judgments Plowing a field
Such a man would rather be useful than famous and would rather serve than be served.
You cannot be a good leader without being a good servant. Christ as servant
    Is 42:1
    Mt 12:18
    Mt 20:28
    Mk 10:45
    Lu 22:27
    Lu 12:37
    Jn 13:4–5
    Php 2:7.

Knowing our level of spirituality requires self-examination!

  1. What we want most
    Pr 23:26
    Ps 42:1

  2. What we think about most
Pr 23:7 KJV For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he
“You can’t stop birds from flying over your tree, but you can stop them from building a nest in it”
    Php 4:6,7
    Ps 19:14

  3. How we use our money
    Mt 6:24 noone…;
Lu 16:13 Your threefold enemy (the world/flesh/devil) will use money to use you
Or you will overcome and use money for God’s glory.

  4. What we do with our leisure time
Eph 5:16. Time is another thing we can “spend”, but it can also be redeemed
Col 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time

  5. The company we enjoy
    1 Co 15:33 °Do not be deceived°! “Bad company corrupts good °” – or ruins good °morals.”

  6. Whom and what we admire
1 Kings 12:13 Rehoboam answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him 14 And spake to them after the counsel of the young men) (Elijah/Elisha, Moses/Joshua)

  7. What we laugh at
In Gen 18 Sarah laughed in unbelief
but in Gen 21, at the birth of the prophesied Isaac, she laughed in joy
How do you feel about the laughter? Does laughter have its place?
Ec 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance
I think scripture makes it clear there is a time for it.

  8. Where We Go
    Rom 13:14
    Gal 5:16
