Facts of Headship:

Fundamentals of Headship:

Fidelity to Headship:

Two genders, two roles, two sets of symbols, two modes of dress

Headship in the Godhead, Adam, The Body of Christ,

1 Chron 29:11 (David) – God – “Head above ALL”, God’s authority

Christ His RULE/Authority, or His ROLE/functions – Lordship = Rule – supremacy, sovereignty

Headship – His Role or function

Lordship – Responsibility to, Headship – Responsibility for

Lordship goes back to redemption – Bought with a price (1 Cor 6:20,7:23), Headship goes back to Adam.

Ownership? 1 Cor 3:21-23

Phil – In the future ALL will eventually acknowledge Him.

God Christs Head – NOT God is Christ’s Lord and NOT “The Head of Christ is the Father”

God’s chosen order – Did it change? NO!

Forms of Headship:

Creational – Congregational – Only seen in the garden & the assembly – show the world!

Christ the head of the body – Eph 1, Col 1:18 organic headship

Administrative order of the church

Verse 12 not here Husband & wife (that is Eph 5:23) see Vs 12. (The husband doesn’t come out of the wife)

Facets of Headship:

Rom 5 – righteousness, 1 Cor 15 – resurrection, Heb 2 rule – Adam’s federal Headship Given to Christ fulfills.

Features of Headship:

Men & women, not bro & sis since goes back to creation order

Ordinances (1X) 1 Cor 11:2 Traditions (12X) 2 Thes 2:15, 3:6 These three positive. Received & handed down

Ch. 15:3 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received”

Subject to Christ – Subject to His word, Subject to gifts given – find and use

Ascending order – Christ at the top, assembling order – Christ in the middle.

Fulfill your role as delivered from above. Remain in your sphere from creation.

Not Inferiority or superiority. Gal 3:28 – Salvation order. Christ is not inferior to God but functionally subordinate!

1 Cor 11 – Paul deals with the uncovered head of the woman – Headship & its symbols.

1 Cor 14:34 Paul deals with Woman speaking “When you come together”.

Different Approach – Audible/Silent, Apparel, Appearance Male & Female

Consequences – Sign or symbol of authority Vs. 10

the theological principle behind the practice.

Two sets of symbols – temporary & permanent, Physical but representative of a Spiritual reality

Everyday/ Permanent – Hair length

Assembly/Temporary – Head coverings

Both symbolize the same things

Loaf & Cup

Room of the unlearned

Physical & Spiritual

Vs 9-11 creation order hair

“When you come together” 5X in Ch. 11, 2X in Ch. 14

Vs 16 Contentious? Rom 5 Heb 2 Eph 5, not so much congregational

Head covering not just part of your wardrobe, but part of your worship.

Argument – 4-6, aught 7- aught not 10

Man uncovered – says my head (Christ) IS on Display – in the coming together

Woman covered – says my head (man) is NOT on display

Vs. 10 – Eph 3:10 the church teaching angels

1 Tim 2:13 Adam First, eve second

Value of both “in the Lord”

Not is a man in the room, but Creation order.

Titus 2 – one-on-one train

Teaching always associated with the church of God

Head covering answers to long hair – for – “answers to”

All the churches of God.

Reasons: Doctrinal, creatorial, celestial, natural, Physical, apostolic, Ch. 14 Commandments of the Lord

Teaching widened to all assemblies: 1:2, 4:17, 7:17, 11:16, 4:34
