Paul is being passed on to Timothy as well as many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In chapter 2 Paul outlines the requirements for being a good messenger using a number of metaphors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Genuine Child-<em>{<strong>2Ti 2:1-2<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Good Soldier-<em>{<strong>2Ti 2:3-4<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Dedicated Athlete-<em>{<strong>2Ti 2:5<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Toiling Farmer-<em>{<strong>2Ti 2:6<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application of the Metaphors-<strong><em>7-14<\/em><\/strong><em>{<strong>2Ti 2:7,8-9,10-11,12-13,14<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Careful Craftsman-<strong><em>15-18<\/em><\/strong><em>{<strong>2Ti 2:15-16,17-18<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Clean Vessel-<strong><em>19-21<\/em><\/strong><em>{<strong>2Ti 2:19,20,21<\/strong>}<\/em> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Bondslave of The Lord class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:1-2}<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 In the <strong><em>physical <\/em><\/strong>realm the child will have a <strong><em>DNA<\/em><\/strong> pattern closely matching the parent.<br>In the spiritual realm Paul is urging Timothy to follow him; to\u00a0<em><strong>live<\/strong><\/em> a pattern of life like his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"line-height:1.2\">I refer to this &#8220;<strong><em>spiritual DNA<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; as: <br><strong><em>D uty to the<\/em><\/strong><br><strong><em>N ext<br>A ge<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To care for the assemblies of God&#8217;s people, and the people that are a part of those assemblies-<strong><em>{2 Cor 11:28}<\/em><\/strong> <br>It was imperative Timothy also <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\"><strong><em>make spiritual children<\/em><\/strong><\/mark> of his own <strong><em>{2 Tim 4:2}<\/em><\/strong><br><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul did<\/mark> &#8211; 2 Tim 2:1-2; 1 Cor 4:17; Philem 10}<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Good_Soldier\"><\/span><br><strong>A Good Soldier<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:3-4}<\/em><\/strong> Timothy is to <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">fight, enduring hardness<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>, <br><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul did<\/mark> &#8211; 2 Cor. 11:23\u201324,25,26,27-28,29 Plus 2 Tim 1:8,2:9-10}<\/em><\/strong> <br>avoiding distractions and keeping the goal of pleasing the Commander In Chief in mind at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Dedicated_Athlete\"><\/span><br><strong>A Dedicated Athlete<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:5}<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Timothy is to <em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">run<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0being mindful to follow the rules that allow the desired goal to be reached; a victory and reward without the chance of being disqualified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"s wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul did<\/mark> &#8211; 1 Cor 9:26}<\/em><\/strong> Will run with purpose,  <br><strong><em>{Phil 2:16}<\/em><\/strong> Will preach so that on the day of Christ I will have pride in their spiritual progress  <br><strong><em>{Phil 3:12,13-14}<\/em><\/strong> Will press on to the goal, not held back by the past <br><strong><em>{Gal 2:2}<\/em><\/strong> Will run in fellowship with other apostles <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Toiling_Farmer\"><\/span><br><strong>A Toiling Farmer<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:6}<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Timothy is to <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">labour<\/mark><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in the field planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting a crop for The Lord. <br><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul did<\/mark> &#8211; 1 Cor 3:6;Gal 4:19}<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Careful_Craftsman\"><\/span><br><strong>A Careful Craftsman<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:15-16,17-18}<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Timothy is to <em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">build<\/mark><\/strong> <\/em>following God&#8217;s plan laid out His Word Accurately <br><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul did<\/mark> &#8211; 1 Cor 3:10}<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Clean_Vessel\"><\/span><br><strong>A Clean Vessel<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>{2 Ti 2:19,20,21}<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Timothy is to <strong>prepare<\/strong> himself as <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\"><strong><em>a vessel<\/em><\/strong><\/mark> emptied, cleansed, and dedicated to The Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul was<\/mark> &#8211; Acts 9:15; 2 Cor 4:6,7}<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Bondslave_of_The_Lord_Jesus\"><\/span><br><strong>A Bondslave of The Lord Jesus<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>{2 Ti 2:22-23,24-25,26}<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Timothy is to <strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">behave as a servant<\/mark><\/em><\/strong> avoiding unnecessary conflict, keeping his desires in check, going after righteousness, teaching and correcting as required. His attitude must be one of gentleness, patience and meekness. <br><strong><em>{<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">As Paul was<\/mark> &#8211; 2 Corinthians 4:5}<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>This advice is in one of the books referred to as &#8220;the pastoral epistles&#8221; This would certainly be paramount for someone who takes the title of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/truthrightlydivided.ca\/2023\/04\/01\/pastors\/\">Pastor<\/a>&#8220;. However, the word in scripture simply means &#8220;shepherd&#8221;.
