Adam\u2019s actions brought condemnation, judgment and death &#8211; and these flow to all under his headship. Christ\u2019s actions brought righteousness, grace and life &#8211; and these flow to all under his headship. Christ\u2019s actions and the blessings which resulted far outweigh all that Adam lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Outline\"><\/span>Outline<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rom 5:12,13-14 &#8211; Devastation Brought by Adam\u2019s Action<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Sin entered the world through one man&#8217;s action &#8211; and brought death &#8211; and this sentence has passed to all men because all mankind were represented in Adam&#8217;s sin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Death reigned supreme even before the Law specifically defined transgression &#8211; showing that Adam\u2019s sinfulness had passed to all his offspring through his headship of the race<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rom 5:15,16,17-Contrast Between Adam and Christ and the Results of Each One\u2019s Actions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Adam\u2019s one action brought death to many- Christ\u2019s one act (grace and gift) brings abundant blessing to many &#8211; notice the \u201cmuch more\u201d &#8211; the blessings in Christ far outweigh the condemnation in Adam (Rom 5:15)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Adam\u2019s one sin of deliberately breaking God\u2019s command (trespass) brought condemnation to all that followed him &#8211; Christ\u2019s gift deals with many sins and brings justification <br>(Rom 5:16)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Death reigned under Adam &#8211; Life reigns in Christ &#8211; again, notice the \u201cmuch more\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rom 5:18-19,20-21 &#8211; Summary of Federal Headship &#8211; Obedience and Disobedience &#8211; Death and Life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Rom 5:13-14,15,16,17 form a parenthesis providing background and explanation &#8211; Rom 5:18 completes the thought from Rom 5:12 &#8211; hence the \u201ctherefore\u201d at the start of Rom 5:18<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 One man&#8217;s disobedience made many sinners- one man&#8217;s obedience made many righteous<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Grace \u201cmuch more\u201d abounds over sin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_PointsQuestions_for_Discussion\"><\/span>Key Points\/Questions for Discussion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. Why is it important to understand the Bible\u2019s teaching about the origin of sin and death? These things obviously exist &#8211; and there needs to be an understanding of why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. What is the point being made in Rom 5:13-14 about death reigning from Adam to Moses even though the law had not been given yet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. Does Rom 5:18 not seem to teach \u201cuniversalism\u201d? \u201cThrough one Man\u2019s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life\u201d. How do we understand the \u201cmany\u201d in <br>Rom 5:15 &amp; Rom 5:19 and the \u201call men\u201d in Rom 5:18? <br>(1 Cor 15:21 -22 is helpful here)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4. In a practical sense, how do we understand what it is to &#8220;reign in life by one, Jesus Christ\u201d? <br>(Rom 5:17)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5.
