{"id":10496,"date":"2025-05-05T16:37:33","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T21:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/truthrightlydivided.ca\/?page_id=10496"},"modified":"2025-05-05T16:37:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T21:37:34","slug":"1-peter-51","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/truthrightlydivided.ca\/wp2\/1-peter-51\/","title":{"rendered":"1 Peter 5:1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5<\/strong> The elders <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>presbuteros<\/em> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03b2\u03cd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03bf\u03c2,4245)<a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup> <\/sup><\/a>which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight <em>thereof<\/em>, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; <sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Neither as <sup>k<\/sup>being lords over <em>God\u2019s<\/em> heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.<a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><br> <br><em>presbuteros<\/em> (\u03c0\u03c1\u03b5\u03c3\u03b2\u03cd\u03c4\u03b5\u03c1\u03bf\u03c2,4245)<a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> In the Christian churches those who, being raised up and qualified by the work of the Holy Spirit, were appointed to have the spiritual care of, and to exercise oversight over, the churches. To these the term \u201cbishops,\u201d<em>episkopoi<\/em>, or \u201coverseers,\u201d is applied (seeActs 20, v.17 with v.28, and Titus 1:5 and7), the latter term indicating the nature of their work<em>presbuteroi<\/em> their maturity of spiritual experience. The divine arrangement seen throughout the NT was for a plurality of these to be appointed in each church,Acts 14:23;20:17;Phil. 1:1;1 Tim. 5:17;Titus 1:5. The duty of \u201celders\u201d is described by the verb<em>episkopeo<\/em>. They were appointed according as they had given evidence of fulfilling the divine qualifications,Titus 1:6 to9; cf.1 Tim. 3:1\u20137 and1 Pet. 5:2; <a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><br><br><br><a id=\"_ftn1\" href=\"#_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> Vine, W.
