In Eph 5:26 the cleansing is by the washing of water by the word of God.<br>Ephesians 5:26 (The Church) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, <a id=\"_ftnref8\" href=\"#_ftn8\"><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/a><br>Vs. 8 He denies the presence of the root of sin in himself, the principle of sin<br>Vs. 10 He denies the practicing of sins, the things we do, the fruits.<br>Vs. 9 He acknowledges both and desires the restoration of the joy of fellowship, to know again the smile of the Father against whom he has sinned, as did David in Psalm 32 &amp;51<br>Vs. 9 \u201cIf we confess\u2026&nbsp; he is faithful\u201d confessing is to God, specific sins, hiding nothing. The word means \u201cto say the same thing as another\u201d and \u201cthereby admit the truth of an accusation\u201d. The light exposes, the eye of God sees, the conscience accuses, the confessor does not deny, cover or excuse. \u201cThe acknowledgement of specific sins gives evidence of sincerity\u201d (Vine). He calls all to whom he writes, \u201clittle <em>sons<\/em>\u201d (1 Jn 2:1, <em>Greek;<\/em> 1 Jn 2:28; 3:18; 4:4; 5:21); but only in 1 Jn 2:13, 18 he uses the term \u201clittle children,\u201d or \u201cinfants.\u201d Our Lord, whose Spirit John so deeply drank into, used to His disciples (Jn 13:33) the term \u201clittle sons,\u201d or <em>dear sons and daughters;<\/em> but in Jn 21:5, \u201clittle children.\u201d It is an undesigned coincidence with the Epistle here, that in John\u2019s Gospel somewhat similarly the classification, \u201clambs, sheep, sheep,\u201d occurs.<br><em>&#8211; paidion<\/em>&nbsp; it is used of an infant just born, John 16:21, &nbsp;1 John 2:13, 18; there it is to be distinguished from <em>teknia<\/em>, (vv. 1, 12, 28: see <em>teknia<\/em> )which term he uses in addressing all his readers <a id=\"_ftnref11\" href=\"#_ftn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><br>5. <em>parakletos<\/em> (\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2, 3875), lit., \u201ccalled to one\u2019s side,\u201d i.e., to one\u2019s aid, is primarily a verbal adjective, and suggests the capability or adaptability for giving aid. It was used in a court of justice to denote a legal assistant, counsel for the defense, an advocate; then, generally, one who pleads another\u2019s cause, an intercessor, advocate, as in 1 John 2:1, of the Lord Jesus. In the widest sense, it signifies a \u201csuccorer, comforter.\u201d Christ was this to His disciples, by the implication of His word \u201canother (<em>allos<\/em>, \u201canother of the same sort,\u201d not <em>heteros<\/em>, \u201cdifferent\u201d) Comforter,\u201d when speaking of the Holy Spirit, John 14:16. In the former passage He is described as \u201cthe propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.\u201d The italicized addition in the kjv, \u201c<em>the sins of,\u02b7<\/em> gives a wrong interpretation. What is indicated is that provision is made for the whole world, so that no one is, by divine predetermination, excluded from the scope of God\u2019s mercy; the efficacy of the \u201cpropitiation,\u201d however, is made actual for those who believe.
